Instructional Design: SYllabus
My course is part of a larger curriculum that includes six additional topics. I wanted to provide enough information for not only this portion of the course, but also include information for the entire curriculum. I also wanted to provide the information in a format that would reach multiple types of learners. With this in mind, I chose to create both a traditional and graphic syllabus.
The traditional syllabus covers important information such as grading, expectations, as well as course policies and procedures. It gives students a detailed explanation of what is needed in order to be successful in the course. It is an upfront view of what is needed in the course and the instructor expectations.
The graphic syllabus speaks to the particulars of the course. It gives students an opportunity to see the key concepts that will be addressed and how they are related. Its a visual representation of the course content.
