Instructional Design: Course Description
Form 3:
Description: What is this course about? Where/how will it be taught?
The course I currently teach is Integrated Mathematics II. It is a math course taught mostly to sophomores. I would like to take one of the more challenging units, Nonlinear Functions and Equations, and create an online component. This unit would be taught as a blended course.
Learners: Who are the learners? What do you know about them that might make a difference in what you design? (Think about age, prior knowledge, familiarity with technology)
The majority of the students are high school sophomores. Their ability levels are quite diverse. They range from students who have moved on without successfully passing the previous course to students who have dropped down from the advanced track. Students have been working with iPads in school since at least 6th grade. They are all comfortable and competent with technology.
Things that are working well in my course. This can be related to what or how you teach, how students respond, or about the technology. What do you like about teaching this course?
Things that I’d like to change about my course. Again, what drags you down? It could be technology, disinterested students, lack of discussion, etc.
The most frustrating or irritating aspect of my course as I am currently teaching it is:
The most time consuming aspect of my course as I am currently teaching it is:

Things that are working well in my course. This can be related to what or how you teach, how students respond, or about the technology. What do you like about teaching this course?
- Student discussion and collaboration in class.
- Ipad templates for class notes and homework.
- Good real world examples to work through.
Things that I’d like to change about my course. Again, what drags you down? It could be technology, disinterested students, lack of discussion, etc.
- Too much content in class.
- Not enough differentiation for all students leading to either bored or lost students.
- Not enough hands on interaction with concepts using technology.
The most frustrating or irritating aspect of my course as I am currently teaching it is:
- Not enough time.
- Too much time directed at lower ability levels in class while not challenging higher ability levels.
- Too much content to cover in class.
The most time consuming aspect of my course as I am currently teaching it is:
- Grading reviews.
- Providing student feedback.
- Making sure all students have necessary skills from previous course before learning new content from this course.
