collaborative communities: first week
Revisions Made:
1. Added an additional question to the intro prompt.
2. Updated my response to the intro prompt.
3. Added my name in to the intro email.
Reflection:
I have made several changes to this assignment as a result of the feedback I received. First, since this is a math class, I have decided to include a questions regarding numbers in the intro prompt. Many students have fears about math, so I try to slowly ease them into the class. I initially did not make math part of the intro for this reason. After much thought, I came up with an additional question that is still student friendly. Asking students about their favorite number gets them thinking about math in a positive way.
Since I adjusted the intro prompt, I also adjusted my response. I included my favorite numbers and the reasons for it. I also made sure to include my preferred name. I want to make sure I answer the prompt in a way that models what I want the students to do.
The final change happened in the intro email. After receiving feedback, I realized i had not included my name in the email, except for the very end. I want to make sure I am as friendly and polite as possible. I have included my name in the second line of the email. This will help students identify with my name and allows me to properly introduce myself.

Intro Prompt
It's important that we develop a strong community and also get to know each other. We will be spending a lot of time working together. This is the beginning of our semester together. Our goal in this post is to get to know one another. We will do this by answering a few questions.
First, this is math class, so lets talk numbers. What is your favorite number and why?
Although we are working on math together, we will all be doing this in a different place. Let's talk about our ideal location. When I'm at my computer working, I like to imagine I'm sitting in a wonderful location. If internet access and money are not an issue, what would be your favorite place to work on your computer? Tell us about your location and why you selected it.
In addition, share a little something about yourself. What is your preferred name (like if you want to be called Dave and never David)? Where do you live? What do you like to do for fun?
Please respond to at least three of your classmates and anyone who responds to your post.

Response to Intro Prompt
Hi! I'm Ms. Basten. Feel free to call me Ms. Basten or Ms. B. My favorite number is 24. There are several reasons why this is my favorite number. First, it's my family. I have 2 parents and there are 4 children. 2 + 4 = 6, which is the number of people in my family. I have also had the number 24 as my jersey number in basketball. In addition, my brothers also had this same jersey number in basketball.
I am joining everyone from Coon Rapids, MN. When I'm not working with students, I enjoy running, reading, and spending time at the lakes. I'm originally from Green Bay, WI. I love football and I'm a huge Packer's fan!
If I could be anywhere while working on my computer, I would be on a tropical island working by the beach. It would be warm and sunny with the ocean in the background. I would pick this location for several reasons. My favorite time of year is summer. I love being out in the sun. I love running along the beach, so I could take breaks when I wanted to go for a run in the most perfect place. Finally, I love the ocean. I find a certain calm and happiness when I'm near the ocean.

Welcome Email
Hello!
I would like to welcome you to Integrated Math 2. My name is Ms. Basten and I will be your instructor for this semester. I'm excited to have you in my class. I look forward to teaching you all that you will need to know throughout the semester. Although this is an online class, we will interact with each other a lot. You will not be in this alone!
I'm sending this email three weeks before our class begins. I want to make sure you have what you need and are ready for the class to begin. We will be using Moodle as our main point of interaction. You received an email earlier this week with log in instructions and user name. Please follow those instructions to log into our class site in the next week. This will ensure everything is ready to go before class starts.
After you have successfully logged into Moodle, please reply to this email. Change the subject line to "Last Name - Math 2 Moodle". If were going to reply to this email, my subject line would read: Basten - Math 2 Moodle. If you have any challenges with logging in, please contact the help desk at (number here).
I look forward to hearing back from you,
Ms. Basten
